Laminate Countertops
Laminate countertops are a great, inexpensive option in comparison to other countertop surfaces. There are over one thousand different laminates available. With the popularity of granite countertops and quartz countertops, laminate manufacturers have created laminates that look just like stone. Some even have a slightly pitted finish to resemble the feel of granite. A formed backsplash is available on laminate counters, but the popular trend at this time, is without a back and a tiled backsplash is put on the wall after the counter is installed.
Laminates are known for their extended durability because they can take a lot of wear and tear. For a little extra money, a special finish in on a variety of colors to make them more scuff and stain resistant.
Some common sense precautions are necessary to maintain the life of the counter: such as using a cutting board on the countertop and wiping up any standing water. Laminate counters need a seam when they continue over more than one wall. The seam must be kept dry to avoid swelling of the joint. At Art’s we use the best glue known but it is still only water resistant, NOT waterproof. We have not had many incidences with damage but it can occur.
Laminate is easy to clean with a simple wipe down of non-abrasive soaps and water, and is considered the most budget-friendly option for countertops.
